Alex Madden was the best at what he did. He'd graduated at the top of his class, never lost a patient. He brightened lives, fixed people.
Maybe that explained sitting at his desk at midnight, staring at Diana Brown's case history. How could he end this? His one failure, one life too broken to fix…
He heard a noise in the open doorway behind him—his boyfriend. "Coming to bed?"
Alex didn't turn around, just stared at the file. "Yeah. Soon."
He closed the file, slipped it into the file cabinet, began a new case history.
