fanfic100 prompt #69, because
starletfallen suggested it. Purgatory-verse.
Disclaimer: I don't own Rent, Benny, or April. Sorry.
Benny woke up to a flash of light outside the window, the low roll of thunder and the patter of hard rain against his window, and a soft quavering voice whispering, "Benny?" He rolled over and opened his eyes to see a small figure standing framed in the doorway, arms wrapped around herself.
"April?" What's going on?"
She shrugged, still hugging herself tightly. "It's thundering, and I just wondered... could you come sit with me, maybe?"
"Yeah." Benny pushed himself up, quickly picked up a T-shirt and pulled it on, and walked out to the living room after April, who had already gone to curl up on the couch. "Where's Roger?"
"He went out with Mark tonight. Boy's night or something." Meaning probably a strip club of some sort. "Said he wouldn't be back 'til late."
"Oh, right." And Collins was spending the night with his boyfriend. Benny sat beside her and put an arm around her shoulders. April immediately leaned against him, making herself comfortable. "You're afraid?" he asked her gently. "Of the thunder?"
"A little," she admitted, letting her usual toughness slip a bit. "Sorry to wake you up."
"Hey," he answered cheerfully, tightening his arm around her a little. "You're my... sister-like-thing, so it's okay."
"Well, good." She snuggled a little closer to him as another peal of thunder rang out, and once it had faded she leaned over to kiss his cheek. "I love my brother-like-thing."
Benny couldn't help but smile at her.
