soscaredtolove for a drabble request meme, using the lyric "Who do you need? / Who do you love? / When you come undone?" Set in Here On In verse.
Disclaimer: I don't own Rent, Mark, Roger, Maureen or April.
Breathing seems like too much effort now, but he can't quite bring himself to stop, so he curls on the bed, tired of living, tired of feeling.
"Mark," he calls, his voice raspy. After a moment he opens his eyes to see Mark outlined in the doorway, leaning into the darkened room. He can't see Mark's face, and he's glad. Mark hates him now, because he killed April, or because he lived when April didn't. He wishes he could bring himself to care.
"Yeah?"
"Where's Maureen?"
"She's staying with a friend. I can call her if you want..."
If he wants. God, he wants so much, her touch and lips and smile, her arms and her voice and her forgiveness, just her...
"No!" His voice cracks a little, harsh in the silence. He tries again, softer. "No. I... never mind."
Mark steps back, closes the door, and Roger curls up again, lost and lonely and absolutely terrified.
