One of the windows, the one that looks out over the lot, is placed so the light of the setting sun always spills through it, orange and gold and sometimes red. Maureen is lying on her back on the broad window seat, eyes closed, hands folded over her chest, soaking up the sun like a cat. She looks like Sleeping Beauty or something, the red-gold lights softening her features.
Benny can't resist going over and kissing her, and she opens her eyes and grins, and kisses him back in a way Sleeping Beauty never would. That's okay, because he's no prince.
